Ordinary Women in Extraordinary Times tells the story five women – Nora and Sheila Wallace and Mary, Annie and Muriel MacSwiney. These women played a vital role in the formation of the Irish state and yet their stories are not widely known. This documentary provides an account of the lives of these five women and in particular the part they played in the Irish Revolution. It attempts to answer, in some small way, the question that was often asked in the early years of the Irish Free State, ‘What did the women do anyway?’.
