In Person
England, 1941, sisters Thomasina and Martha have invented a machine they’ve named LOLA that can pick up radio and tv broadcasts from the future allowing the sisters to discover everything from racing results to David Bowie, before he is even born. But with World War II gaining steam and England’s future in jeopardy the sisters decide to use the machine as a weapon of intelligence in an effort to defeat the Nazis. Things seem to be going brilliantly until Thomasina makes a fatal miscalculation and Martha realizes the consequences of what they’ve done. Director Andrew Legge’s debut film is a fantastic blend of documentary, faux found footage and science fiction with a romance thrown in for good measure. The film follows several award-winning shorts that previously screened at the festival including The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden and A Kingdom Once Again.
